Another year is here — hello 2019!

I’m finally starting to feel human again after getting sick just two days into the year. I don’t know if it was the flu or a virus or what but it really took me down.

how most of my first 2 weeks went down. First tea with lemon and eventually back to my beloved coffee

I went hiking that night and just couldn’t keep up with my group. I felt lightheaded and tired. The next morning i was full on feverish and achy and that lasted a couple of days before the head cold and chest congestion folded into the mix. Yucko!

Let’s just say it was a lovely “extra” gift from Mr. SOTSS this holiday. He was sick first. But he did give me another gift for Christmas that was AWESOME!

He booked us a ski weekend in Vermont for that last weekend of 2018. I felt bad that he was sick but he was a trooper and we had a great time.

snowboarding and sniffles

We are both super grateful that I didn’t get sick until AFTER the trip because I am not the a trooper type when I am sick. I’m actually the biggest mope and whiner you’ve ever met when I”m sick.

All smiles waiting for the lift up for our first run of the day

Skiing always makes me feel like a big kid. Oh wait, maybe it’s the pigtails 😉

We also did a little hiking in Vermont before coming back home to New Jersey to ring in the new year.

I feel bad for anyone who doesn’t have a love of nature. It was so quiet and calming in the woods

The last thing I deserved was a kiss after making Mr. SOTSS patiently wait for me to get the phone successfully balanced in some tree branches. I love to get photos of us on our trips but HATE to ask people which is why the timer-camera feature is my best friend.

On the running front—well, there hasn’t been one at all. I haven’t run a single step in 6 weeks. And frankly I’m more than ok with it. I really wanted to give my feet a little break for a month and then of course these last 2 weeks I’ve barely been able to move and breathe let alone run.

But I have some ideas swimming in my head for what I want to achieve this year in the health and fitness bucket and running will resume for sure. In all transparency I’ve gained about 10 or 12 pounds in the last 2 years. Between being injured much of 2017 and not managing all the stress of my life changes in 2018, I’ve reached for meals more than miles and kettle corn more than kettle bells.

not the breakfast of champions….but how cute is my pancake paw print?

I don’t want to say I’m going on a diet but I know i’d feel so much better physically and mentally if I could drop a few pounds and build my endurance and strength back up. So here’s to 2019! I’ve got 50 weeks left which gives me plenty of time to make strides in this department.

In other news my sweet Duncan turned 10 a few weeks ago.

My boy!

Can you believe it? He’s double digits! We celebrated with my usual forced birthday hat photo and then I gave Duncan and Chester some scrambled eggs.

It was a 4 minute party. 3 minutes and 30 seconds to get the party hat photo and 30 seconds to inhale the eggs.

Hopefully I’ll have some running pictures to share in the coming months, but for now I’ll leave you with a few pooch pics and hope that you’ll indulge me in sharing their cuteness…

At least someone’s running

This upstairs/downstairs thing happens often

So what do you hope to achieve this year?

  1. Always look forward to your updates! Happy New Year! I was sick too – not fun! So excited to hear about your fitness bucket list… As far as weight – sure it’s important to be mindful of too many snacks – but in my experience it’s when I focus on a goal – a race or getting stronger or something other than my weight and restrictive diet is when I am at my best. Hope this new year brings you happiness and health and a few running medals too!

  2. Hi Sally! I am currently injured (marathons are not.for.me), so I would like to get back to running pain-free! In the meantime, I am doing a lot of strength training and classes at the gym. Love the photos, and I’m glad you are feeling better!

  3. Glad you’re feeling better…Love all the updates and what a great Christmas gift !

  4. Happy New Year!!! I have been sidelined since November 29 – the day someone ran into me and totaled my car 🙁

I’ve just started back to the gym, but still have some hip pain so I’m taking it slow.
I would like —> no LOVE to drop a few pounds and get my endurance and strength back.

I love nature but prefer the ocean to mountains. However, I appreciate it all! I only went skiing a couple times as a teenager. I think I’d like to give it a try again. You make it look so fun!!!

Look forward to your next update…..
