It’s 60 degrees! 30 degrees above average and that was all I needed to help push me out the door to finally get a run in since recovering from that nasty upper respiratory infection.

I’ve been feeling better since probably Wednesday and I’m sure I could have managed a few miles on Thursday or Friday but I was scared that running would cause me to relapse. Or maybe I was just being lazy? I ended up being rather busy with work on Thurs/Fri so I just took the extra 2 days to take it easy.

And today, with the warmish sun on my face, I set out for 3 miles which turned into 3.5.

I think my favorite color combination lately is this chartreuse green and turquoise combo on my shirt and sneakers. I even have the green stitching up the sides of the leggings and on the cuffs of my socks. And I love that my earbuds match too!

Of course I’m not loving the extra lbs I feel like I’ve gained over the last few months. I can see it in this picture for sure 🙁 Time to work on that. #storyofmylife

The highlights of my week involved spending time with Duncan, Mr. SOTSS, Chester, and various combinations of all 3.

I’m going to shoot for another few miles tomorrow and then on Monday I’m dropping my Subaru at the dealership for service and I plan to run/walk the 6.5 miles from Subaru to Mr. SOTSS’s house. This should get me back on track for training for the Cherry Blossom 10 miler.

Speaking of the Cherry Blossom 10 miler, have I mentioned how excited I am for it?!

Are you excited for any Spring races? What are you up to this weekend?

Today I’m going to recap my Mt. Snow ski weekend in Vermont and tell you about my healthy car snack options. I’m recapping everything but races lately and I’m quite ok with that. =)

I’ve got races coming up in March, April and May so indulge me for the next few weeks with these recreational winter fun posts =)

Friday morning Mr SOTSS and I headed up to Vermont with a quick stop to drop off Duncan at my friend Nicole’s house.

This ski weekend was a gift from Mr SOTSS for Christmas. He gave the same gift last year only we chose a different bed and breakfast this year. I love traveling, especially road trips. There’s something so enjoyable about spending the long hours in the car listening to tunes and talking about so many things we never seem to get to talk about normally. Road trips aren’t complete without snacks because, let’s face it, I can get really cranky if I don’t have access to food. Usually I make poor choices for snacking when traveling but I had just been online reading about healthy snacks at nuts.com and then saw this cool “snack hack”:

nuts_new_year_snack_hack_v02I was so inspired that I packed up some healthy stuff like apples, almonds and cranberries, a granola bar and some pretzels.

As we approached Vermont it started to snow. It was exactly the way it should be when you’re driving up for a ski weekend. So picturesque!

We checked in to the bed and breakfast just before sunset and I forced Mr. SOTSS to take some pictures of me for the blog. He is so tolerant.

Hello.

How’s it going? I enjoyed a lazy, rainy Sunday morning with my favorites….coffee and Duncan.

rainy-lazy-coffeeThen, the sun came out and it was 61 degrees (in January!) so I figured that was a sign I needed to go for a run.

I almost had a dilemma with my Garmin Vivofit. The wristband broke. But then I remembered it came with 2 size bands. I went through my junk drawer and found the box and sure enough the smaller band was still in there (2 years later! pays to be a packrat sometimes). It just fits my wrist.

I worked from home on Thursday and Friday which was great because it meant spending extra time with the doodle and also getting in some running in the afternoon.

On Friday, I offered to take my dad to pick up his car at the mechanic which is over an hour away, so I let Duncan come for the ride for company.back-seat-doodle

Yesterday I finally attended another one of New York Road Runner’s “Open Run” events. open-runThey hold these every Saturday at 9am and it’s free. I’m hardly ever around on Saturday mornings but yesterday I had absolutely no plans so I figured what the heck. It’s a 3 mile course and they time you the old fashioned way…..with a stop watch. =) Best part was that they were hosting MulchFest at the park too…all the disposed Christmas trees being mulched left the most amazing aroma! tree-mulchPlus, it’s always nice to meet up with other runners who are local and the course is mostly trails—but just loose gravel trails—not “tree root and other obstacles to avoid” trails which is really nice because I’m just too accident prone for the latter. Later on in the day I took Duncan for a walk along another trail system at a different park which I always forget about.

greenbeltI’m going to try and do some more trail running this year and I’ll definitely be going back to both parks on a regular basis….especially on weekends when I have the luxury of time. I can’t believe how many miles of trails there are:

I came over to my brother and sister-in-law’s house to hang out and have dinner and now we’re watching House Hunters on HGTV. It’s one of my favorite shows.

Ugh, weekend is just about over. Hope you had a lovely weekend.

Anyone prefer trail running over road running or treadmill running?

Hi folks!

It’s December 23rd….and that means one thing….DUNCAN’S BIRTHDAY! Yep, the doodle turned 7 today and we celebrated the same way we do each year. I force him to wear his party hat and then I give him a toy and treats.

Good boy!

He knows the drill and stays still like a champ long enough for me to snap a pic or 100 two.

Well, I haven’t run a single mile this week. I am going to try and squeeze in a run tomorrow before I hit the road to visit my friend Susan for Christmas Eve.

And since this post is all about Duncan and nothing about running I’ll sign off by sharing my Christmas card…

2015-xmascard-alt-new

Thank you all for reading my little blog. I’m going to get started on a post highlighting my top 10 favorite memories of 2015 and hopefully get that up before the new year.

Happy and Merry Everything!
