Mondays are usually not my thang…so when traffic was atrocious yesterday morning I took to Facebook passive-aggressively complaining about it. Meanwhile my friend was posting about all the good that Mondays bring…new beginnings and where she lives the weather was stellar. It’s was dreary here in New York City with rain and a chill in the air buuuuttttt….
A couple of things made me happy…

I am a willy wonka candy addict lover. These pretty rainbow nerds made my Monday tasty.

Next up…

Every spring they plant the most beautiful tulips, daffodils and lilacs in and around the Herald Square area which is right by my office. It was nice to step off the bus in the morning into the “concrete jungle” that is NYC and see such pretty flowers.

So that’s that.

Question: What’s your favorite color? Favorite flower? Favorite candy?

It’s Sunday evening and I’m watching TV and pretending that it’s only Saturday. I’m not ready for the weekend to be over. Today was a pretty lazy day. It started with me watching a program called Yoga For Life on TV. Last week I watched it and thought about actually doing the Yoga moves but I stayed on the couch.

This week I came one step closer and decided to DVR the series so hopefully I’ll actually implement some yoga into my life soon.

I did a token load of laundry and got a 4 mile run in but that’s about it.

photo 4It’s been a pretty hum drum day.

Last night though was far from hum drum…I went to a favorite mexican joint with my friends. I had a glass of sangria to go along with my quesadillas and we also split the best plate of nachos ever.

I had the shrimp quesadillas

we slaughtered that plate of nachos.

Dessert was amazing! It was a baked carmelized apple oat square thingy with vanilla chip ice cream, whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon. I’ve been really out of control with the sweets lately. It was just a few days ago i had that warm chocolate chip cookie thingy with gelato. (Thingy is my new word obsession I suppose). And then there was the easter candy binge on Friday.

Tomorrow I’ll try and ease up on the sweets—try being the operative word. Of course Mondays are always a good day to celebrate with a scone.

Question: What’s your favorite dessert?

Happy Friday everyone. It’s Valentine’s Day.

I have a beautiful treasure.

A Valentine’s card that my Grandpa gave my Grandma back in 1954. They were high school sweethearts and spent close to 70 years together before my grandpa passed in 1992.

And just literally a minute ago I received a delivery…

My brother and sister-in-law do so much for me. I’m so lucky to have them. And today I was surpised with some chocolate covered strawberries and a reminder that I am loved. AWWW!

So not only did I weather the storm that dropped over a foot of snow and lots of rain and sleet as well but I MADE IT TO THE GYM last night in between bands of snow. Girls gotta make it work when training for a spring marathon right?!

5 miles done!

It was supposed to be an easier run as I just did a tempo on Tuesday but I felt good. So after a warmup mile at 11:30pace I kept my pace about 9:30 for the last 4 netting an average overall pace of a 10 minute mile.

There is just so much snow everywhere…

not my car. these folks never bothered digging out from the last couple of storms. They’re probably not gonna drive until spring.

Tomorrow my peeps are trekking here to Staten Island to run a 10K trail run called the Cold Feat 10K! We ran it last year too. I’m really excited because we’re supposed to be getting a few more inches in the morning so it should feel like we’re running in a winter wonderland. And then I’ll be serving everyone brunch before they trek home to Brooklyn and the Bronx. And Sunday I’ve got a 14 miler to complete. I am already planning to scale back my running next week because i think all these treadmill runs are putting some stress on my shins and also I seem to be speeding up too much on the treadmill runs. I don’t want to burn out.

I’ll leave you with this video of the doodle in the snow. Have a great weekend y’all!

Life can’t always be a bed of roses. I’ve been having some good days lately but I have some friends who are hurting. I’m no stranger to sadness. My BIG sadness happened almost 15 years ago. My husband died of cancer. (If you’ve not seen my Dicks Sporting Goods “Every Runner Has a Reason” video yet you can see how running filled a void…)

I’ve got a good friend (she’s part of my Wolf Pack!) who just passed the 6 month mark since her dad was killed. It was tragic and instantly her life was changed. She’s still gripping the fact that he’s gone. It was so sudden. I have another friend who has 2 dogs (brothers from the same litter) that are his world. It’s complicated but long story short these dogs pulled him through a sudden loss 3 years ago. Well one of these boys is now very sick. He has cancer and we’re at the point that we can only hope for a miracle. He’s only 4!

Meet Angus, the cancer patient. Please say a prayer for him.

Meet Angus, the cancer patient. Please say a prayer for him. Please!

I can relate to seeing how cancer can deteriorate lives and spirit. So yesterday when I set out for my run I knew I needed to feel it in my heart and my head as well as in my legs! I wanted to channel those endorphins and clear my head and really strengthen myself both physically and emotionally. Mission accomplished. That’s what I love about running. It doesn’t let me down. I just felt so strong and in control. I may not be able to create miracles but I can make sure I’m strong and healthy so that I can be there for my friends. Life comes full circle….always.

I wore more shades of pink and blue than a box of crayons.

This morning I slept in with this guy:

starting the day off right!

I’ve got some cleaning and other non-fun stuff to get done and then I’m headed out to my brother’s house to spend time with family.

Hope you had a great weekend. Hope you’re feeling strong. And I hope you treated yourself to something delicious for breakfast today.

Question: Who’s watching the Olympics? Favorite sport? I am so amazed at some of them Those freestyle snowboarders flipping in the air for so long. It’s insane. Awesomely insane.
