Goodbye May. Hello June!

Yup, without fail there’s always a new month to begin when one ends. Time doesn’t stop. Life is a continuous journey. There might be some detours or very “slow lane” days but we’re always moving forward at some speed.

I’ve obviously had a detour with my tendonitis forcing me to sweat out the small stuff in a new way. Yesterday I pushed a little further and completed 13 miles for a new PDR (personal distance record) on the bike! (meanwhile I just saw in my Facebook feed that my friend Alex rode his bike 108 miles today. Cray cray!)

I’m liking the bike but I really do miss running (21 days running without running!). Hoping that when I go back for my re-check at the foot doctor in 11 days (not that I’m counting or anything) I get cleared to start back again. In the meantime I’ll continue with the detour and look forward to cycling maybe once a week in addition to running once i’m healed =) Yesterday’s ride was really lovely. Some pretty pink flowers have bloomed literally overnight and they match my bike so well! And the sky was filled with puffy white clouds. I swear I can stare at clouds and see cartoon characters just waiting to be created….

So May comes to a close with all of 8 running miles. Not exactly what marathon training should look like but hey—that’s life. Well, I did work hard on practicing carbo-loading ALL MONTH and have 5 lovely added pounds to carry around with me for a bit….hopefully just a few weeks because it’s making me sad and I hate when I get down on myself about weight gain. Phooey!

My social calendar for June will start off nice and quiet but will get quite busy come the second half of the month, so I’m just going to take it easy and enjoy a little loafing around the house. And so long as the foot cooperates I’ve got two 10Ks on the horizon this month. The Oakley Mini 10K and The Queens 10K. Definitely won’t be shooting for a PR though.

Today I’m going to shoot for a short bike ride and then do some major cleaning or napping….not sure how productive I feel like being =)

Are you being productive today or is it a lazy weekend for ya?

It’s Sunday evening and I’m watching TV and pretending that it’s only Saturday. I’m not ready for the weekend to be over. Today was a pretty lazy day. It started with me watching a program called Yoga For Life on TV. Last week I watched it and thought about actually doing the Yoga moves but I stayed on the couch.

This week I came one step closer and decided to DVR the series so hopefully I’ll actually implement some yoga into my life soon.

I did a token load of laundry and got a 4 mile run in but that’s about it.

photo 4It’s been a pretty hum drum day.

Last night though was far from hum drum…I went to a favorite mexican joint with my friends. I had a glass of sangria to go along with my quesadillas and we also split the best plate of nachos ever.

we slaughtered that plate of nachos.

Dessert was amazing! It was a baked carmelized apple oat square thingy with vanilla chip ice cream, whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon. I’ve been really out of control with the sweets lately. It was just a few days ago i had that warm chocolate chip cookie thingy with gelato. (Thingy is my new word obsession I suppose). And then there was the easter candy binge on Friday.

Tomorrow I’ll try and ease up on the sweets—try being the operative word. Of course Mondays are always a good day to celebrate with a scone.

Question: What’s your favorite dessert?

This morning I finally tackled the closet and drawer cleaning in my bedroom. I filled an entire garbage bag with old worn out socks, shirts (mostly cotton race t-shirts), and pajamas. I also filled a second bag with clothes to give to Goodwill. Sayonara! See ya! So long! Boy did that feel good!

I treated myself to a celebratory breakfast. Nothing says, celebratory clean closet more than bacon and eggs (i even added some sauteed onions and celery)

Then I took the dog for a 2 mile walk in the woods. We’ve been doing that a lot lately. It’s one of my favorite ways to relax and sweat out the small stuff.

walk and sniff and sniff and walk…then pass out in the car on the ride home.

I dilly dallied for a bit and then got a phone call from my friend. But as soon as I hung up with her I got ready to go for a run.

my karate kid meets marathon runner look. not one i suggest.

my “karate kid meets marathon runner” look…Sally Miyagi. not a flattering look. (note to self: stick to black buffs or maybe just wear a hat)

It was already 3:30 and the sun sets here now about 4:30. I didn’t have a specific distance I wanted to cover but I did want to get home before it was pitch dark. So I stopped my watch at 5 miles and then walked about 10 minutes longer to cool down.photo 2

Most of my route was on the pavement but I finished the last 1/4 mile on a foot trail right near my house. Saw a few interesting things along the way.

Left to right: 1) Looks like a fellow NYC Marathoner runs the same route as me and they lost a glove. 2) I like the name of the contractor because I think running is cool. 3) Anyone need some honey? Bee's nest free to good home.

After coming back from my run I’ve basically been snacking and couch surfing. Something about fleece loungewear that just makes you feel all loungy. It’s been nice to have some downtime without having to be anywhere. No time restraints. I feel a little lazy but then I think about all running around I’ve done this year and frankly lazy is just fine this weekend. I’m not ready yet to brave the stores for holiday shopping or to put up my tree and decorate but perhaps next weekend I’ll get the ball rolling.

4 day weekends rock….I’m already breaking a sweat at the thought of returning to work tomorrow.

Question: When do you start decorating for the holidays? Did you enjoy your Thanksgiving?
