Hi guys. Happy Sunday! I’m on Block Island (off the coast of Rhode Island) this weekend to attend a wedding. But first let me fill you in on the last couple of days.

I decided to do my long run on Friday morning instead of today since I wasn’t sure how much down time I would have while here in Block Island.  It was a drop back week so I only had 7 miles on the schedule. No issues. I took it slow thanks to the heat and covered the 7 miles without any issues.

My normal drill before running is making Duncan sit for a cookie. He loves when I go running!

IMG_7201Then I went for a much needed mani/pedi so all my digits would look great this weekend.

I packed and said goodbye to the doodle and then headed out to Long Island with Mr SOTSS and his girls to catch the first of 2 ferries that eventually got us here to the island.

Block Island, here we come!

We had a lovely lunch and then checked in to our room and spent some time on the hotel property doing cartwheels and handstands and basically just having fun. The only problem was that in my enthusiastic attempt at a cartwheel I seemed to have pulled my hamstring.

An injury in the making :(

An injury in the making 🙁

Seriously as P!nk says I’m a hazard to myself. I didn’t realize how bad the pull was until later on.

The hotel has been here since the 1850s and the surroundings are breathtaking.

In the evening it was time for a fun clam bake at a restaurant that had access to the beach. The kids really enjoyed it.

We watched the sunset and the moon rise and then sat around a bonfire to toast marshmallows and make s’mores.

This morning I got up with the sunrise and tried to run. It was basically a shuffle. And I only did that because it actually hurt less than walking. I stopped plenty to take pictures and then snuck back in the room by 6:30am before anyone else even woke up. I covered about 2.5 miles and my pace is really not important to share. LOL!

good morning!

And now I’m going to the wedding.

Hope you have a great day!

Have you ever hurt yourself doing something that you didn’t expect to get injured doing?

Have you ever been to Block Island? Beach wedding? Clam bake?

Do you like S’mores?

Howdy people,

Hope you’ve had a great weekend. I’ve had a 4-day weekend and it STILL flew by. Friday was July 4th and I was looking forward to just laying low but soon low turned to lonely…then I got a text from my friend Z that she was having a BBQ and Duncan and I should come by. Perfect timing.

Duncan had prepared all morning:

Good thing the doodle rested up because his pal Chance was waiting patiently for his arrival. These dogs are buddies that go way back…They met in 2010.

They kept an eye on the grill. I kept an eye indulged on the canolis.

It rained for a bit so we stayed indoors but as soon as the rain passed we sprawled out on the deck.

no worries! i’ve got the grill under control!

i can’t believe nobody dropped a single crumb!

Duncan and I headed home before sunset because he isn’t a fan of the fireworks. I’m grateful he isn’t a total disaster but the noise keeps him alert and unsure. His tail goes down and his ears go up and he can’t relax.  So we blasted the television and shut the lights and by 10:30pm he finally fell asleep.

Yesterday morning was perfection! The temps dropped after the rain and I woke up to 63 degrees and really low humidity. And it was nice a breezy too. It almost felt like October. I headed out to the beach with a smile on my face and set out for my first post-injury long run. After being silly for the camera phone I eventually cranked out 8 miles!

still slow but i’m totally ok with that!

I managed to be a couch potato for most of the afternoon and then in the evening Duncan and I met a friend and his dog Chester for a walk on the beach. I have no pictures and trust me I’m saving you! Let’s just say dead fish and ticks were involved as were dog baths later on. EEEWWWW!

This morning I did some more couch potato channel surfing (ooh sorta sounds like cross training!) and then cleaned out my garage. Caught up on the ole telephone with a few friends and then I made a last minute decision to squeeze in a bike ride before heading to the grocery store.

So now it’s time to prepare for the week ahead. I leave you with this video of the doodle just chillin’ shot gun…

How was your weekend?

i really wanted to try kayaking but by the time i finished riding the bike i missed it! Hopefully they’ll have it again this summer.

Other than biking, I went to the grocery store, ate a few meals, took duncan for a walk at the park and now i’m watching St. Elmo’s Fire. =)

See ya later…

I woke up all optimistic today!

Began with a little coffee and Facebook. I found a lot of great inspirational quotes and posted them to the blog.

Then I pulled myself together to take the dog to the beach to enjoy some sunshine. Duncan met up with his buddy Chance. They were too busy sniffing seaweed and such to look up so I took just took pictures of their “other cheeks”. Still adorable! =)

When we got home Duncan was pretty tired, so I took the opportunity to go for my run.

photo 2-1

Just a short easy run since tomorrow is my 20 miler! Which reminds me, I better get my gear laid out soon so I won’t be fumbling at 5am tomorrow.

So after my run I was hungry. Unfortunately my fridge was pretty bare. While I was staring at the pathetically empty fridge, I noticed that I had a lot of condiments in the door so I started to weed them out. Next thing I knew I was scrubbing the entire fridge and basically tossed 80 percent of the condiments. Admission #1: I found mustard that expired in 2011. Admission #2: there was a container of cream cheese in the back that might have been there a year or longer. I DIDN’T open the container for fear of what it looked like. =)

I grabbed a KIND Bar (almond and apricot…my favorite) to tide me over and then headed out to the store to re-stock.

Just finished messaging with Jane about tomorrow. We talked about all the important aspects of a long training run….weather, what we’re going to wear, if we’re going to take our own water or rely on the water stops provided….but most importantly….where will we be having brunch afterward?! =) And now I can rest easy!

How’s your weekend going? Weekends are cool, right?!
