8/23

I’m in Westport NY which is in the Adirondacks just north of Lake Placid. (Ironman country). It’s so beautiful here. I’m relaxing and enjoying sitting by the lake with Duncan.

But of course I did go for a run earlier this morning. It started with a brisk 4.5 mile walk with the pooch and my friend Donna and her nieces. I then ran the same route right after. So a total of 9 miles. It’s extremely hilly here.

But the weather is beyond perfect and I enjoyed the extra effort. đŸ™‚Â Some scenery from my running route:

Aren’t vacations glorious? Heck even though its only a 48 hour trip it’s so worth it. My WOW for today. If you can get away even for a small amount of time don’t think twice….just DO IT!

Last night we had a lovely dinner and I made s’mores dip for dessert (sorry my photo didn’t come out). I follow this woman’s recipe. She’s got great photos of the dip there too! I also had some traditional s’mores too. You can never have enough melted chocolate with marshmallow and grahams.

We’re leaving in the morning. So sad. A few more pics of my trip…

Hidee Ho! Happy Saturday

Did you run today? I did! 15 miles!

photo 4 photo 5I stayed on Staten Island and ran solo. I was excited to run the boardwalk since it’s just now completely re-opened since Hurricane Sandy last October. I tried to stay at an even 11ish minute mile pace. Well my average pace was exactly that but each split was really all over the place. Partially my Garmin gone awry, partially from photo taking and partially just me konking out in the sun during some miles and then getting invigorated in the shade for others.

I got to take a photo with my beloved bridge:

I also got to test my willpower when 12 miles into the run I had to run through this:

o-m-g!

o-m-g!

They were setting up for a fair held each summer called “Back to the Beach”. Luckily A. I had no money on me and B. They were still setting up. Because C. I would have got a dozen zeppoles AND a bag of kettle corn and not finished running.

I realized today that there’s just 11 more weeks until the NYC Marathon.

11 more weeks!

11 more weeks!

I obsess about my marathons like it’s my wedding day. Will the weather be ok. Will my stomach be ok? Will I fuel right? What will I wear? I wish I could turn my brain off sometimes.

Today, since I had no running peeps I listened to music the entire way. My good friend Lenny has a band called The Infinite Staircase and they have a couple of great singles out on iTunes. I heard both songs while running this morning. It was awesome. You should listen to their single called The Pride. Buy it if you like. 100% of the money raised goes toward helping Sandy victims. Another great one that really keeps me running strong is this one. It’s called The Things We’ve Done

After my run I went to a surprise 40th birthday party for my longtime friend (since Jr. High) and ate too much. Then I got the doodle and took him to the park for a walk. And then I came home and bought 4 new sports bras (new styles that i’ve been wanting to try because my current style has been failing me in the chafing department) and 2 pairs of capris from Moving Comfort. I opted to try the Luna and the Divine Mesh bra styles and the Endurance capris. I hope they all fit well. But Moving Comfort has free shipping (over $50) and free returns. Score!

Questions: Do you have a favorite sports bra brand/style and capri brand/style? Do you have any good music suggestions for my running playlist? I pretend that more than 2 people read my blog so I keep asking questions. Apparently it could take 18 months to get a blogs readership to spike. Good thing I enjoy this. I’ll keep it up regardless. =)

It’s Thankful Thursday for me today. I’m off on Thursdays and I really needed the time to take care of some bills/chores/shopping etc.

I’ve been updating my day on Facebook so here’s how today’s been going so far…

Well I’m off to take the doodle for a nice 2 mile walk with my friend and her two French Mastiffs (Turner and Hooch dogs =).

Question: What is your favorite type of frozen fruit? I love mangos and cherries best frozen.

Happy Hump Day!

How goes it? We’re having AMAZING weather here in NYC this week. Today it was 62 degrees at sunrise. Um, hello? It’s August! But I’m not complaining. This is my kind of weather! And it’s also Duncan’s favorite weather. At first I thought I’d take him out to run the doodle mile once or twice with me. But then I decided he deserved to have a nice off leash “sniff-like-there’s-no-tomorrow” walk in the park.

What a treat when I found some honeysuckles still out. They usually only last through June.

We had such a nice walk that after work I took him back for another walk before sunset.

I REALLY needed both walks….probably more than the doodle (ok maybe it was a tie). I’ve been struggling lately with a whole boatload of “small stuff”. Well really, it’s more than small stuff. It’s more like big decisions I need to make when it comes to life/work balance. We all know I am quite runner-centric but walks are really just as important to me.

Training Tweakage: So I took a look at my calendar and noticed i’ve got a very busy second half of August. Next Thursday I’ll be headed to the Adirondacks for a few days. So I shuffled around some of my runs. Instead of doing my long run on Saturday, I’ll move it until Sunday when I’m home. That leaves me with a 6 miler that would normally be on Thursday morning but i’m starting my road trip at 6am and I don’t really want to run at 4am. So, since my Saturday run is moving to Sunday i figured that i could move Thursday’s run to Friday. Now the only snag is that I like to join my friend Donna (who I will be staying with) for long walks in the morning. Usually 4 miles. And it’s my favorite part of going there (well second favorite…..making S’mores is my favorite=). We talk and enjoy the beautiful vista of mountains and meadows. This pic was from last year’s trip….

So My 6 miler might end up being a 3 or 4 mile run either before or after our 4 mile walk =)

It’s always good to make a plan. Don’t ever let your training schedule surprise you. Re-arrange proactively and you’ll feel calmer and more in control.

Tomorrow i’ve got a 6 miler to bang out. I’m so excited that the weather will be a repeat of today.

Question: Any tips for how to fit in your exercise/training schedule and not letting life get in the way?
